Genealogy
The Mt. Carmel Public Library houses local history materials for Wabash, Edwards, Richland, Wayne, White and Lawrence Counties in Illinois, as well as some materials for Gibson County, Indiana. The Genealogy Department is available all hours the library is open. The library is open Monday thru Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Library welcomes brief requests for information about our genealogy collection. We will answer requests for information and perform brief searches for obituaries and limited family information. Please direct all mail requests to Louise Taylor, 727 Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, IL 62863 or email Louise Taylor at ltaylor@shawls.lib.il.us. There will be a $ 10.00 research fee per name plus $1.00 fee per printed page sent for the query. Please be as specific as you can about dates and names . Requests will be answered as soon as possible. Telephone requests may also be made during library business hours, Monday - Friday, 11 am - 3 pm. Additionally, the Wabash County Clerk's Office, located at the County Courthouse (401 Market Street, Mt. Carmel, IL 62863) contains further information, including marriage, birth, and death records from 1877-present.
